"The strange looking bird that is black and white, is not a magpie or a magpie/crow cross, he is in fact Mourdour named after the necromancer in Ivanhoe. I know it's not a quality shot but it was the best I could get from a distance! We visited the RSPB Glaslyn Osprey Centre this morning and saw great live video of the parents and two chicks in the nest a mile or two away. In the afternoon on a walk across The Cob in Porthmadog we spotted an Osprey fishing. It must have taken half an hour to catch this fish as it was being mobbed by seagulls. Only three Osprey pairs in the area, so really pleased to have seen this!

Knaresborough Castle ravens came in to being as a community project for the Millennium, with the permission of HRH. The Prince of Wales, as the castle belongs to him under the title of the Duchy of Lancaster, it was decided to have captive ravens on display at the castle so people could see them close up and get better photographic opportunities that are not always possible at the Tower of London. The ravens are under the care of Igraine Hustwitt Skelton. She holds the role of 'Her Majesty's Keeper of Castle Ravens, Knaresborough'.

Now then, this wildlife photography is quite new to me and I don't know that much about birds but I spent a good twenty minutes in the freezing cold watching a group of robins chasing each other around and the usual ducks and coots and swans on the ice. Then I saw a couple of these guys chasing around, I thought they were sparrows at first but realised they were something a bit different. When it came to ID them it would seem they could be rare Little Buntings (male in winter colour). (Ref: page 396 RSPB Complete Birds of Britain & Europe). I may be wrong, please let me know! Little Owl - Alnwick Castle - Northumberland - " The Little Owl is the smallest owl that you will find in Britain. It is about 22 cms (8 inches) long and has a wing span of around 55cm (22inches). It has a flat head and short tail and its plummage is gray-brown mottled with white. The diet consists mainly of mice, small birds, worms and other insects, but it is one of the only owls to eat vegetation."
