Self Portraits 52 Weeks Y3 ... We had a walk from Lagos Town along the cliff tops today. First stop was the beach Praia D Ana where we had an excellent lunch with the tide rolling in around the stacks just a few metres away. Our next stop was somewhere new to us, Praia Do Camilo ... after walking down many steps we arrived at a small cove with the tide almost in ... well worth a visit!

Self Portraits 52 Weeks Y3 ... I spent the morning preparing a passata / tomato sauce with our home grown red and purple tomatoes. There's enough now for at least two meals stored in a preserve jar. Yum!

cheesehead ... 34/52 Y3

Self Portraits 52 Weeks - Year 3 Cheesehead is a nickname, sometimes used disparagingly, referring to a person from Wisconsin, because of the large volume of cheese production of the state. It is also the nickname of fans of the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League. Ralph Bruno created the famous foam cheesehead hat that has become an enduring symbol of the state. Bruno made the first hat in 1987 using stuffing from his couch, after Chicago Bears fans taunted him and called him a 'cheesehead'. I first saw some 'Cheeseheads' performing in NYC in 2005 ... www.cheesehead.com/

jubilee '77 ...23/52 Y3

The Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977 In June 1977 I was almost 19, finishing my Art College foundation course in Stockport. In September I would be leaving home for Leeds in Yorkshire as a Graphic Design student, and I’m still here 35 years later! There was a Jubilee party on the playing field that my parents house backs onto ... all the usual stuff: bunting, flags, sausage rolls, hotpot, beer, dads v kids football and my younger brother’s band ‘Rings Of Saturn’ playing mainly Shadows covers. In 1977 glam rock was really at its end, prog rock was starting to suffer bad press (although it never went away) and it was the year of Punk Rock, which we mainly saw on TV as it never really penetrated as a movement/fashion in terms of the masses ‘up North’ ... ALTHOUGH the music itself was embraced by the Manchester (and Leeds) crowd as it developed into New Wave and Two Tone and New Romantic. I embraced all this music, from my first T.Rex concert in 1972 with my friend Brian (Len_Scapov), to Yes concerts and a couple of Reading Festivals in ’75 and ’76 (AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Hawkwind, Supertramp. Yes, Wishbone Ash, Joan Armatrading, Brian Eno & Phil Manzanera, Gong, Camel, Judas Priest, Osibisa etc ... The rock club The Electric Circus which we frequented on Saturdays in Manchester was the home to Punk on Sundays. The Clash, The Buzzcocks and the Sex Pistols etc. The Jazz club ‘The Hole in the Wall was also giving space to new bands and the ‘punk poet’ John Cooper Clarke. The Electric Circus closed in October 1977. I think people who were teens in the ’70’s generally have an eclectic mix of tastes because of the wide variety of music that was new and available ... for the first time. Glam Rock, Prog Rock, Disco, Reggae, Punk, New Wave, New Romantic. The 1970’s were also dire political/social times, just watch a documentary or two and it looks so depressing, but to be honest it never felt like that to me at the time ... so I made a hat! My Silver Jubilee hat was re-discovered in my cellar recently. It’s made of cardboard and has a Silver Jubilee plastic bag stapled to it. On the back are silver stars and blue and red stripes ... I can’t believe it was 35 years ago! Have a great Diamond Jubilee folks ...

I went to the St Patrick's Day Parade in Leeds today and bought a new hat! Had a great time watching the parade, the music and the dancers in glorious weather ...
